Potash Corp Delay?

     Mark Fracchia who is the General Manager for the $1.7 Billion dollar Potash Corporation project, says “There has been no mistakes made and they are not stopping construction, they are just taking a bit of a break in the foundations work, because they are changing direction in the actual head frame design. It is not unusual for projects this size to get part way along and decide to make a change in direction.” Right now everything is on schedule and most of the construction should be done by the end of 2011 or early 2012.

Slippery Conditions

There were 3 accidents in Sussex yesterday due to the bad road conditions. Roads were closed on route 10 and route 8-90. One person was taken to hospital with leg injuries and the jaws of life were used to free the dirver of the other vehicle. Police are warning citizens to drive with caution on slippery roads!

Flood At The Sussex Salvation Army

The Sussex Salvation Army still needs your help! Last Friday during the rain storm their 3 sump pumps were not working and the rain was coming through the wall, as a result their Christmas gifts were damaged and they lost clothing, food and toys. They need your help in replenishing their supplies for the needy this Christmas. Donations of those items would be greatly appreciated from the public.  

Tax Rate Taking A Decrease

In a special council meeting last night, the 2009 budget was brought forward, it was announced that the overall expenditure increased by 4.6 percent, the towns tax base went up 8.8 percent which created the extra revenue which the town has been able to develop the budget and reduce it 4.78 which is a sizeable decrease in the tax rate, unfortunately the province has raised the assessments to a higher amount so unfortunately the citizens may not see a decrease in their tax bills, but they wont see as large of an increase as if they hadn’t reduced the tax rate
