Sussex School Walk Out

With the Dairy Town Classic being cancelled this year there has been many disappointed students. Luke Belding, a grade 12 athlete from Sussex Regional High School organized a walk out yesterday afternoon, and had sent around a petition for the students to sign. He said they have sent e-mails to the Minister of Education, but there has been no reply. Adam Reicker is a student that does not play school sports, but is heavily involved in the student council and he was speaking with the Minister of Education at a leadership seminar and Kelly Lamrock said it’s up to Gale Jefferys who is the president of the Dairy Town Classic whether or not the tournament is a go.

Gale Jefferys said it’s not his decision it’s the committees decision, Jefferys believes the students were not fighting the Dairy Town Classic, his understanding was that it was a walk out for athletics and that it was happening across the province yesterday.

ATV Accident Off Dutch Valley Rd, Sussex Corner

On Sunday November 9^th there was a single ATV accident off Dutch Valley Rd, Sussex Corner. Two other ATV’s were at the scene when police arrived. The driver of the ATV involved in the accident was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. Alcohol was believed to be a factor and the investigation is continuing. One of the other ATV drivers at the scene has been charged with impaired driving and will appear in court at a later date.

Legion Grand Opening

After a devastating fire almost a year ago, the Sussex legion held their grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday afternoon. The Minister of Veterans Affairs, Greg Thompson thanked everyone for their hard work and promised he would help restore the Veterans belonging’s that were lost in the fire. Last Spring, Saint John East MLA, Roly McIntyre was representing the provincial government, and gave the legion a grant of Two Hundred Thousand dollars to help re-build the Sussex legion. Dave Robinson a local businessman donated three thousand dollars from his company Robinson Enterprises to help with the legion.

Halloween Night In Sussex

The Sussex RCMP expected it to be a busier Halloween than normal, due to it falling on Friday. The police had a full contingent of members working with assistance from units who normally work out of Headquarters in Fredericton. The RCMP charged two people with illegal possession of alcohol. One person was charged for drinking while under age. There were also reports of minor vandalism around the Sussex area.

Sussex Fire

On November 1^st, Sussex RCMP received a report of a fire that would have occurred between October 15^th and 26^th in a camp located on Cherryvale Road. The fire would have been initiated in the basement. The investigation to date has failed to reveal the person responsible for this crime. Break And Enter

There have been recent break and enters into numerous trailers at the 3 Bears Campground and the Gingerbread House Bakery located in Penobsquis. Sussex Power Outages

Enlight of the power outages last week, there were some concerns from the Sussex residents and business owners that the trees on Main Street are aging and may become a concern this winter! The residents in the community are wondering “Are there plans to cut down the aging trees before the heavy snowfall?” The towns CAO Michael Cummings said “It’s not the town’s responsibility; it’s the power commissions.”

$6000 Worth Of Copper Wire Stolen

Sometime between the evening of Monday October 27th and the morning of Wednesday October 29th, someone stole 9 copper wires from machinery located off Lakefield road in the Cassidy Lake area. The thieves made off with approximately $6000 worth or wires. It is more than likely the suspects are familiar with the area since the machinery was not observable from the road. Vandalism @ The Three Bears Campground

Sometime between the evening of Wednesday October 15th and the morning of Saturday October 18th, and act of vandalism occurred at the Three Bears Campground in Penobsquis. Several campers were broken into and damaged. Windows were broken and owners belongings have gone missing from a few campers. Fire extinguishers were emptied in a couple of properties. In total between 10 and 15 campers and sites were victimized. Citizens and lot owners are upset at this random senseless act of vandalism. If anyone has any information please contact Crime Stoppers or the Sussex RCMP.

Heavy Rain In Sussex

The town of Sussex is advising Citizens that the rivers through Sussex have risen dramatically in the last few hours and have now overflowed their banks. With Rain expected throughout today, citizens who usually experience water problems on their property or in their homes may want to check their situation.
